Community Shows it’s Commitment to Strong Minds’ 7th Annual Run For Change

Strong Minds has once again spearheaded the 7th Annual RUN FOR CHANGE, taking place on May 4th, 2024 at Century 21: The Rink in the Machine Shop Plaza. This 5k run has been a fixture of Children’s Mental Health Week which runs from May 1st to May 7th and is dedicated to raising awareness and raising funds for mental health and addiction issues and community programming geared towards aiding individuals who may be struggling with their health.

Strong Minds has mapped out a 5k route along the picturesque downtown Sault Ste. Marie waterfront for this coming Saturday and would like to invite the community to register and take part. All ages and levels of fitness are welcome, from dedicated runners to casual walkers. Check in for the event opens at 9:00 A.M. with the run getƫing underway at 10:00 A.M. Registration is $30 a person, $125 for groups of five, or $200 for groups of ten.

Registration will also be available at the time of the event.

“It’s incredible to see the support from the community pour in. When one of us struggles with mental
health or addictions, many lives around us are touched and affected. It truly is a community issue and
the exponential growth we’ve seen throughout the years we’ve been holding Run for Change reflects our
community’s commitment to these issues.” – Amanda Lambert, CEO

Strong Minds would like to thank all of our incredible sponsors including our Platinum sponsors Algoma Steel Inc, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), Croatian Corner, the United Steelworkers Local 2724, plus our incredible partners Garden River First Nations Restore Justice Program and the Batchewana Health Centre, where Strong Minds holds a variety of programming throughout the year. We’d especially like to thank Garden River First Nations Restore Justice Program for stepping up and covering the cost of t-shirts for the runners!

They would also like to thank the Sault Ste. Marie Musical Comedy Guild and the cast and crew of Legally Blonde for partnering up for the Refresher Challenge, where local restaurants and bars created a teal and pink Refresher to be sold throughout the summer with part of the proceeds going towards mental health initiatives. We’d like to extend a big thank you partcipating restaurants Shooters Lounge, Peace Restaurant, The Whisky Barrel, JCC Sugar, and Thyne’s Family Bakery/The Cat-urday Cat Cafe. We’d like to urge everyone to try a delicious refresher and post in on social media with the hashtags #barexam and #bendandsnap! And of course, get out there to see Legally Blonde, which is running from May 1st – 4th and selling out fast!

If you are unable to attend Run for Change, donations can also be made through the Strong Minds website at www.strongminds.co/run-for-change. Strong Minds hopes that our community comes together to show their support for this amazing cause.
