Speed Limit signs may be coming to Mackinaw Island. While motor vehicles are not used on the Island the introduction of electric bikes, some of which can reach speed limits of more than 30 miles per hour have become a concern for the popular tourist destination.
The use of E-bikes except for disabled individuals is banned on the Island. A bill has been passed by the Michigan Senate with Bipartisan support but still needs consideration of the House of representatives before hitting the Governor’s desk for signing.
The speed limit would be set at 10 miles per hour in the downtown area and 15 miles per hour on other roads on the Island.
