Suspect Identified in Michigan State Police Vehicle Shooting and Arson

The man that shot up Michigan State Police vehicles and set them on fire has been identified.

James Kamal Itani has been charged with numerous serious offences after suffering gunshot wounds last week in Chippewa County as Police went to arrest him.

On September 6 at approximately 3:15 a.m., Itani drove a silver-colored Honda CRV that entered the driveway of the Sault Ste. Marie Post. The male suspect parked his vehicle and exited wearing camouflage.

He doused several patrol vehicles with gasoline and set them on fire. After setting them on fire, he produced a rifle from the vehicle and proceeded to fire multiple rounds into and around the patrol vehicles.

Following his arrest, he was transported to a downstate hospital and then transported back to Chippewa County Jail. His arraignment is expected today in District court in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan.

Itani faces charges of Possession of a Firearm in Commission of Crime, Assault with Intent to Murder and Arson.
