On October 7, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 35-year-old Ryan Hopkin with operation while impaired and possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Around 9:30 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a person unconscious at the wheel of a running motor vehicle in the 500 block of Queen Street East. Officers were dispatched to the location. Upon waking the driver, police observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs. Police identified the driver as the accused, and they were arrested. The accused was transported to hospital for bodily substance screening.
A subsequent search found the accused to be in possession of approximately 20 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl. The drugs seized have an estimated street value of more than $10,300.
The accused is charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drugs and/or Alcohol
- Possession of Schedule I Substance for Purpose of Trafficking
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on November 27, 2023.
