On March 16, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 21-year-old Tyler Birch with operation while impaired.

Around 3:45 a.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a driver asleep at the wheel of their vehicle at the intersection of Lake Street and Trunk Road. Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival, parked the cruisers in front of and behind the vehicle.

When awoken by officers, the driver reversed the vehicle into a police cruiser and continued to do so until officers were able to gain access to the vehicle through a window and put the vehicle in park. None of the responding officers sustained physical injuries.

Officers developed grounds to believe the accused’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The accused provided breath samples into an approved screening device, and all were above the legal limit. They were arrested.

The accused is charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80+

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on April 15, 2024.
