On February 12, 2024, detectives with Investigation Services, with assistance from officers with Patrol Services, charged 36-year-old Melanie Mackan with arson.
Around 2:40 a.m. on February 7, 911 Communicators received a report of a fire on Portage Lane. Upon arrival, officers saw a truck on fire beside the train tracks, which was subsequently extinguished by Fire Services. An investigation found the accused was at the scene of, and involved in, the arson. Detectives obtained a warrant for their arrest.
The accused was located at a residence in the 500 block of Albert Street West and arrested on the strength of the warrant.
The accused is charged with:
- Arson – Damage to Property
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
