Media Club Launches at Sault Museum

The Sault Ste. Marie Museum is excited to announce the launch of Reverb & Rewind, a media club and drop-in creative studio, housed on the Sault Museum’s third floor.

Reverb & Rewind is generously supported by the Ontario Arts Council. This initiative aims to foster exploration, innovation, and community engagement through workshops and drop-in studio access.

Reverb & Rewind functions as a media club that is open to community members of all ages and Backgrounds with an interest in digital or analogue media. The space and programming provide a unique opportunity for folks to explore the museum’s recently acquired and growing collection of digital and analog media technology and archives.

Participants are invited to immerse themselves in the rich history of Sault Ste. Marie and experiment with creating media projects and artworks using the available equipment and footage. No prior experience is required to join our workshops, use the equipment, or view local archival media materials.

Workshops and drop-in studio time are scheduled on Saturdays from 1 – 4 PM, every other Saturday, starting this February 24th. Local artist Isabelle Michaud will kick off our workshop series with an introductory rotoscoping workshop. Attendees are encouraged (but not required) to bring an iPad or tablet and stylus—some will be available to borrow for the workshop.

Future workshops will feature local and visiting artists covering topics like introductory video editing, sound sampling, splicing and mixing, experimental video, slide-scanning, and documenting artifacts, to name a few. More details on topics and dates can be found on the Museum’s Facebook, Instagram, or website.

Our open house last weekend saw a range of guests from various backgrounds and age groups. Reverb & Rewind is open to the public and is free to access.
