Federal government funding for Destination Northern Ontario

Destination Northern Ontario will receive $110,000 from funding through FedNor (Federal Economic Develpment Agency for Northern Ontario) to support inclusive tourism in the north.

Sault Ste. Marie MP Terry Sheehan announced the funding Friday in the Sault.

“Today’s investment will will drive economic growth by helping to attract visitors to Northern Ontario and give tourism businesses the tools they need to promote safe and inclusive tourism experiences across the region,” Sheehan said in a release.

The funding will allow Destination Northern Ontario to conduct a 2SLGBTQ+ market readiness capacity building and training programmer tourism businesses in Northern Ontario. The project offers accreditation to 35 businesses as 2SLGBTQ+ welcoming. It also provides opportunity to build on that platform by training 25 new trainers.

The funds will also support five 2SLGBTQ+ diversity and inclusion training sessions and five audits designed to identify a destination’s strengths and areas in need of improvement in market readiness.
