On February 5, 2024, detectives with the Fraud Unit charged 54-year-old Robert Direnzo with fraud over $5,000, theft, and other offences.
Detectives entered into an investigation on November 28, 2023, in response to reports of the accused defrauding someone known to them. Investigation revealed the accused, who had power of attorney over the victim’s finances, defrauded them of approximately $362,283 between March 2020 and December 2023.
The accused attended the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service building on February 5 and turned themselves in. They were arrested.
The accused is charged with:
- Fraud Over $5,000
- Theft by Person Holding Power of Attorney
- Use of Credit Card x3
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 25, 2024.
