DAYNARD, Janet Ann (Gough)

November 20, 1957 – December 31, 2023

On December 31st, 2023, at ARCH, with her loving wife at her side Janet passed away peacefully.

Daughter of the late Anne Schinners. Loving Wife of Cathy Rainone. Caring Mother of Donald (Hollie) Gough, Andrew Gough, and Brian Gough. She is survived by her siblings Tom (Corrine) Gough, Roberta (Gary) Bourgeois, John (Sharon) Gough and Jean (Marc) Bigras. Adoring Nana to Briannah, Abigail, Quinn, Zoey, and Jayden. Special Aunty to Lucien, Addison, Bane, and Annabella. She will be missed by her aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and Lothian Step Siblings.

Many knew Janet as the ‘Mayor of Jamestown’ as she was the heart and soul of the James Street area almost as soon as they moved there. She was the voice of those who lost their way and advocated for everyone she met. When the Jamestown Strong Group was formed Janet jumped in with both feet as she found a group that felt the same way she did.

She was also a 14-year member of the Royal Purple lodge #155 in Sault Ste. Marie, as well as being involved with the Provincial Lodge for nine years, stepping down just last spring. She loved spending time with the ladies of the organization and was proud of the work they accomplished. Although Janet’s battle with cancer was short, she fought bravely and with everything in her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Apostle, Dr. Buehner, Dr. Bowen, Dr. Booth and the SAH nurses as well as the team at ARCH for their compassion and care.

In following Janet’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at The Elk’s Lodge (216 Bay St, SSM) on Saturday, January 6th, 2024, from 1:00 pm -3:00 pm. The Royal Purple will be hosting a memorial service at 1:30 pm to honour Janet.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Royal Purple Sault Ste Marie #155 (payable by cheque only).
