Casino Proceeds Lands City $362,099 Payday

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is pleased to make a fourth quarter (January 1 – March 31) payment totaling $362,099 to the City of Sault Ste. Marie for hosting Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie.

During OLG’s fiscal year (April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024), Sault Ste. Marie has received $1,411,083. Since the gaming site opened in May 1999, Sault Ste. Marie has received $35,286,618.

These payments to the host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.

“Municipality Contribution Agreement payments are an important source of funding for Ontario communities, and help deliver vital services that the people of Ontario enjoy,” said Ross Romano, Member of Provincial Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie. “Our local casino offers good, local jobs and plays a critical role in supporting in our economy, making a real difference for Sault Ste. Marie.”

OLG is proud to share proceeds of casino gaming with local communities, contributing to economic recovery, infrastructure development and job creation. Payments to host communities are part of OLG’s commitment to Ontario – 100 per cent of OLG’s profits are reinvested in the province.

Over the past seven years, service providers have invested nearly $2.2 billion in private sector capital investment across the province. Since 2017, these investments have led to the development and opening of seven new casinos, one planned development and additional gaming expansions and non-gaming amenities.

Since 1994, host communities have received more than $2.1 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.
