On May 8, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 40-year-old Derek Sutherland with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and assaulting a peace officer.
Around 3:00 a.m., 911 Communicators received a report of an assault at a business in the 700 block of Trunk Road. Officers were dispatched to the business. An investigation revealed the accused had assaulted an employee when asked to leave the business, punching them and hitting them with a stool. The victim sustained physical injuries and was taken to hospital.
The accused had left the business prior to officers’ arrival but was located nearby and arrested. During the arrest, the accused spit at officers.
The accused is charged with:
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
- Assault With Weapon
- Assault Peace Officer
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
