Arrest Made in Blind River Break and Enter

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On December 28, 2023, shortly after 7:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter at a residence within the 100 block of Youngfox Road in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined that sometime between 1:00 p.m. on December 27, 2023, and 7:00 a.m. on December 28, 2023. The complainant arrived home to find that someone attempted to kick in the front door and was partially opened. Once inside the home the complainant observed the home to be in disarray and found a kitchen window open where entry was gained.

Items that were stolen were: jewelry, a baseball bat, pocketknives, shampoo, towels, cologne, food and medication that have an estimated value of $2000. A set of broken prescription eyeglasses were left behind by a suspect that was known to the complainant.

On January 1, 2024, at 5:45 p.m., police made an arrest in Blind River. As a result, Chelsea VARGA, 28 years-of-age from Blind River was charged with:

  • Break, Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Mischief-Destroy or Damages Property

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on January 2, 2024 and was remanded into custody.
