Alcohol sales in convenience and grocery stores to start as early as this summer

A year and a half earlier than anticipated, Ontario’s PC government has announced plans to expand alcohol sales from grocery stores to convenience stores. The expansion could begin as early as August 1 when grocery stores that already have a liquor license will be permitted to begin selling pre-packaged beverages and large-packaged beer.

Convenience stores are expected to be allowed to begin selling beer, ciders, wines and pre-packaged drinks as early as September 5. From Oct. 31 all eligible grocery stores and large box stores will have the option to sell alcohol, including large pack sizes.
