The mysterious Lake Michigan triangle

You may have heard of the famous Bermuda Triangle in the North Atlantic Ocean where many ships and planes have gone missing under mysterious circumstances. But, have you ever heard of the Lake Michigan triangle?

Chances are, you haven’t it is not that well-known, and many people believe that these events that supposedly unfolded in Lake Michigan never even happened in the first place. Despite what some people think, let’s learn about the mysterious events that took place in a deadly part of Lake Michigan.

The triangle connects to Ludington Michigan, Benton Harbor Michigan, and Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The first recorded event happened on May 21st, 1891. Some sailors set off from Chicago after dropping off a lumber shipment and they were heading back to Muskegon, Michigan when storm clouds started forming on the horizon. The crew was considering turning around and heading back to Chicago to wait out the storm but in the end, they decided to continue onward to Muskegon.

The city of Muskegon waited for the ship but it never showed up and nobody from the crew attempted to make communications to Muskegon. Baffled, the lumber company sends out a search party but they never found a shipwreck or any other clues that the boat had been there. Another incident happened many years later in 1912- a group of sailors from Thompson, Michigan were transporting Christmas trees to Chicago. The ship never reached Chicago and again, not a trace of evidence was found until a year later when Christmas trees started washing up on the shore of Chicago (so the people who ordered Christmas trees did end up getting them!).

So, those are just 2 stories of the numerous incidents (or ship and plane crashes) that are supposed to have happened in this area of Lake Michigan. Whether these stories are true or not, it does make for good
entertainment reading about them. However, in 2007 archeologists discovered Stonehenge-like structures
under that particular area of Lake Michigan and one boulder even had petroglyphs on it. Is this the reason why all those ships and planes in history went missing here?
