Terry Harold Stark

Former longtime Newberry resident, Terry Harold Stark, 75, died Friday afternoon February 9, 2024 at his residence in Kingsley in the presence of his loving family and Munson Healthcare Hospice.

Born February 5, 1949 in Midland, son of the late Harold and Martha (Sanborn) Stark, Terry was a graduate of Newberry High School.  In 1971, Terry married the former Margaret Palmer at St. Brigit’s Catholic Church in Midland and made Newberry their home, raising three children.

Terry was employed with the Department of Natural Resources for over 40 years serving in the capacity of survey technician, wildland firefighter and deputy conservation officer until his retirement.

Terry was active in the community formerly serving on the Newberry Fire Department for 15 years, member and board trustee of the Luce County Ambulance Corp serving as a first responder and rescue chief, member of the Luce County Emergency Management Coordinator/911 Director, trustee and former chair member of the Luce County Board of Commissioners, president of the Tahquamenon Falls Little League and much more.  Terry also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family at their camp.

Terry was a longtime member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Newberry and currently a member of St. Mary of Hannah Catholic Church in Kingsley, where he has resided since 2020.

In addition to his parents, Terry is preceded in death by his wife Margaret on February 7, 2009.

Survivors include his loving children Jeremy (Amanda) Stark of Kincheloe, Sarah (Bachir) Asmine of Corona, California and Christopher (Jessica) Stark of Kingsley; grandchildren Dillon, Hailey, Sofia, Lelia, Zahra, Nora, Eric, Allison and Madilyn; great-granddaughter Alannah; siblings Oliver (Mary) Town of Midland, Daniel (Darlene) Stark of Midland and Susan Stark of Texas; several nieces, nephews and godchildren.

A gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Terry will be held Friday February 16, 2024 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Newberry.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at the church with Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating.  Rite of Committal will take place at Forest Home Cemetery.
