Houston, TX. July 5, 2023 Tenaris has appointed Martin Castro as its new president in Canada where he will oversee all commercial, manufacturing and services operations, leading a team of approximately 1,000 in the country.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to meet, listen and learn from our team in Canada who have worked hard over the past couple of years to complete meaningful investments to transform our industrial footprint and to strengthen our commercial presence. I applaud their achievements and look forward to working with everyone to advance Tenaris’ positioning,” said Castro, who will be based at Tenaris’ Canadian Industrial Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
In 2022, Tenaris inaugurated a series of investments, $150M in Canada, to centralize its pipe manufacturing operations of both seamless and Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) under a single roof in Ontario. The investments included a premium line to offer customers a full range of premium connections, expanded capacity for sour service steel grades and new pipe diameters, as well as the integration of a new ERW line to produce welded OCTG, among other improvements in safety and automation.
“We have a unique offer for our oil and gas customers as the largest domestic manufacturer of seamless and ERW products and complement our production with our direct-to-customer services model known as Rig Direct®. There is great potential in Canada,” added Castro.
Castro first joined Tenaris in 2007 in Argentina as a global markets senior analyst. In 2008, he moved to the United States where he worked in planning and commercial under various roles, including commercial vice president. He managed four regional offices across the USA overseeing the company’s global key accounts, the implementation of Rig Direct® and other business coordination responsibilities to strengthen customer partnerships. He also held the position of Managing Director for Tenaris’s operations in Southeast Asia and Oceania.
Castro, born in Argentina, graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a degree in industrial engineering. He received the degree of finance specialization from the Universidad de San Andres in Argentina, and an executive MBA from Columbia Business School in New York, USA.
Castro is a U.S. citizen.
