On August 1, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 30-year-old Sydney Benwell with robbery and firearm offences.
Around 2:00 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a robbery in a multi-unit residence building in the 0-100 block of Sackville Road. Officers were dispatched to the location.
Upon arrival, the victim reported the accused, who is known to them, had verbally threatened to harm them with a gun before taking cash from them. The victim reported that the accused had robbed them once before in early July and, in doing so, had pointed a black handgun at them. Officers located the accused, and they were arrested.
The accused is charged with:
- Robbery x2
- Point Firearm
- Using Firearm in Commission of Offence
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Breach of Probation x3
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
