On September 14, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 26-year-old Norman Shaganash with assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and several other offences.
Around 6:00 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a disturbance in the 200 block of Bay Street. The caller advised a person was attempting to assault security officers with pepper spray after punching another victim while trying to take their bicycle.
Upon arrival, officers located the suspect nearby and identified them as the accused. They were arrested. A subsequent search found them to be in possession of a canister of pepper spray.
The accused is charged with:
- Assault
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Possession of Weapon Contrary to Order x3
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
