On July 4, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 59-year-old John Nemeth with assaulting a peace officer, assault, and public mischief.
On June 30, 2023, police received a report from the accused that they had been assaulted and injured by correctional officers at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre (ATRC) two days earlier. Further investigation found the injuries had been self-inflicted a day before the alleged assault.
Later that day, the accused assaulted staff at the ATRC by throwing cups of what is believed to be urine and feces at multiple victims.
The accused was arrested and is charged with:
- Assaulting a Peace Officer
- Public Mischief
The accused remains in custody at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre pending a bail hearing.
