St. Vincent Place Looking for New Soup Kitchen Volunteer Teams

St. Vincent Place Volunteer Teams

SAULT STE MARIE – If you’ve been looking for a way to help those in our community, St. Vincent Place has the perfect opportunity.

We are currently seeking new teams of volunteers to help in our soup kitchen for Wednesday dinners. If you’re not familiar with how our soup kitchen works, here’s a breakdown:

Each meal that is served in our soup kitchen is planned, purchased, prepared, and served by one of our volunteer teams. Each team takes its turn serving about every six weeks (but this depends on the number of teams we have – the more teams there are, the less often each one serves), and the cost of each meal averages about $250. Meals are currently being served take-out style.

The meals our current teams offer tend to be what we know as comfort food: pasta and meatballs, roasted pork loin, or meatloaf with bread, rice, or potatoes and vegetables are some of the more popular meals. Nothing fancy is needed, just a hearty meal to help fill the bellies of those in need. Some of our teams are made up of business owners and employees, others are church groups, while others are simply groups of friends, family, or neighbours. As long as you have at least 5 or 6 like-minded people, you can form a soup kitchen team!

We make up the team schedule for a full year in advance, so we just ask that teams commit to one year of serving (which could mean as few as three or four meals over the year).

If you have any questions, would like to see a team in action before deciding, or want to sign up, contact Sara at [email protected] or 705-253-2770 ext. 202.
