Sault Fire Respond To Call On Trunk Road

Family Pets Die in East End Fire

On Thursday, September 21, 2023, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service crews were called to a reported fire in a vulnerable occupancy in the east end of the city.

Shortly after 6:00 a.m., fire crews responded to a call of fire in the 300 block of Trunk Road. Upon arrival, fire crews were directed to the kitchen area of the building. The fire was extinguished prior to the arrival of crews.

After investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be combustibles in close proximity to a kitchen appliance.

Further investigation revealed that staff delivered a thorough execution of fire safety procedures during the incident. “Fire safety procedures and systems are put in place to ensure everything works seamlessly during a fire incident,” said Deputy Chief Naomi Thibault, “Fire safety systems functioned as intended and staff demonstrated a strong commitment to fire and life safety during the incident.”

There is minimal fire damage with extensive water damage to report. There were no injuries to report.
