Sault Ste. Marie, August 15, 2023) – Sault College Employment Services is proud and excited to partner with the Indigenous Friendship Centre to host a two-day celebration of local Indigenous artists, community supports and hiring employers.
The Indigenous Employment and Agency Showcase will be held on Tuesday, August 22 and Wednesday, August 23 between 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Queenscentre, 477 Queen Street East, both in the beautiful and bright newly renovated Atrium and at Sault College Employment Solutions located on the second floor in Suite 203. Job seeking community members are invited and encouraged to participate in this unique event to meet with employers, gather information on available supports within our community, learn about educational offerings to enhance career development, and network with local artists/entrepreneurs who have pursued a successful business honouring their culture and doing what they love.
Day one of this two-day event (Tuesday August 22) features community agencies and education programs. The day begins with opening ceremonies and a land acknowledgement at 10 a.m., followed by presentations on the Urban Indigenous Homeward Bound program, www.ssmifc.com/urban-indigenous-homeward-bound, delivered by the Indigenous Friendship Centre at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Employers and local artists headline day two of this event. Individuals interested in pursuing employment will be able to speak with organization representatives on their hiring processes, skills requirements, and employment opportunities. Our artist gallery of entrepreneurs creates an open and inspiring discussion on their journey towards self-employment.
“Through the Indigenous Employment and Agency Showcase, we have a unique opportunity to unite job seekers, employers, and local artists in a celebration of culture, community, and career development.
