Run the Great Lakes ’24 a success

Close to 600 entrants helped make this year’s Run for the Great Lakes fundraiser a success.

The fun run raises money to support ARCH Hospice and the Sault Area Hospital Foundation.

Organizer Doug Richardson says 437 adults and 161 took part in the 25th edition of the annual event.

“I was very happy with how the day went,” said Richardson. “Weather kept some people away, and made it less comfortable after they finished, but all seemed happy. Very proud of the large group of people that help put this together. It’s a lot of work, but worth all the happy people and great charity donations we can make because of their work.”

Dan Scarpino topped the field in the Men’s 10 K run and Iris Lenauer was first in the Women’s 10 K.

Andy Haidar was the quickest in the Men’s 5 K while Hilary Mallinger topped the Women’s 5 K field.

Richardson says he won’t have a final tally on monies raised until “all the bills are in and late registrations” are tallied but says well over $30,000 was raised Sunday, which will eclipse last year’s total.
