Prime Video to move to default ad-tier model

Ads will appear on Amazon Prime Video shows and movies starting next year unless subscribers opt for the ad-free option, which would cost more.

The tech giant announced today that the ads will be available in the US, UK, Germany and Canada starting early next year, followed by the French, Italian, Spanish, Mexican and Australian markets later in the same year.

In recent years, the streaming industry has seen a decrease in new subscriptions as customers grapple with high inflation, rising interest rates and a decrease in entertainment and other discretionary spending. In the US, Prime subscription prices currently range from $1.99/month or $139/year, while Canadian Prime members pay $9/month or $99/year
