On March 5, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 36-year-old Tyler Ross with arson, operation while prohibited, and several other offences.
Around 2:40 a.m. on February 7, 911 Communicators received a report of a fire on Portage Lane. Upon arrival, officers saw a truck on fire beside the train tracks, which was subsequently extinguished by Fire Services. An investigation determined this to be arson. The investigation also found the accused had fled from a routine traffic stop by the Ontario Provincial Police whilst driving the truck just hours before the arson took place and that the accused was involved in the arson.
Around 2:00 p.m. on March 5, 2024, officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the 0-100 block of Industrial Park Crescent in which the accused was a passenger. They were arrested. A subsequent search found the accused to be in possession of approximately 55 grams of suspected fentanyl. The estimated street value of drugs seized is $11,000.
The accused is charged with:
- Arson
- Possession of Schedule I Substance for Purpose of Trafficking
- Operation While Prohibited – Criminal Code x4
- Operation While Prohibited – Legal Restriction From Any Other Act x2
- Driving While Under Suspension
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order x3
- Failure to Comply with Release Order x2
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
The way this police release reads is weird. 3 weeks ago…yes only 3 weeks ago this guy was picked up for the OPP chase and arson and was charged then. He apparently got bail on that? He must of if he was out again?
