Multiple Charges After High Speed Chase in Stolen Vehicle

On December 19, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 40-year-old Amanda Maynard with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation, assault of a peace officer, and several other offences. The passenger of the vehicle, 36-year-old Jacob Sabourin, was charged with being an occupant of a vehicle taken without consent.

Around 6:10 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a driver who was passed out in a vehicle in a parking lot in the 700 block of Wellington Street East. The vehicle described by the caller had been stolen earlier that day.

Officers were dispatched to the parking lot and attempted to speak with the driver. The driver, later identified as Amanda Maynard, drove away and struck an officer. They then crashed the vehicle into a fence and drove out of the parking lot. The vehicle, which continued to evade police, drove erratically and without lights through a busy parking lot, through a red light, and struck a police cruiser before eventually being stopped on Brien Avenue. Both occupants were arrested around 6:30 p.m. Four officers sustained minor physical injuries during the incident. Three cruisers were also damaged.

The driver had also been arrested around 5:40 a.m. the same day for an unrelated break and enter in the 600 block of Metzger Street and they were released on an undertaking.

The driver is charged with:

  • Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest x3
  • Dangerous Operation x2
  • Flight from Peace Officer x2
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Break and Enter – Commit Indictable Offence

This accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The passenger is charged with:

  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Taken Without Consent

This accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on February 12, 2024.
