Lake Superior State University’s robotics/engineering wing was evacuated yesterday due to reports of smoke coming from the building. The fire department was called to the campus shortly before 2:30 pm. Tower 58 was utilized to survey the roof of the structure. Due to the east winds, the fumes and smoke were blown across the Cisler Parking Lot, forcing the evacuation of the building.

According to Fire Chief Ed Miller there was extensive damage to the robotics room. Michigan state police and the fire marshal will be in today to investigate the cause. Fire Services report smoke damage throughout the entire building so classes today will be relocated.

The fire did not cause any fatalities or injuries and the evacuation process was completed without incident.
