Going Over Could Cost You More

Like everything else these days, the cost of going across to Sault Michigan could set you back a little more.

The Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority is looking at semi-annual increases of 2.9 percent for all passenger vehicles, with commercial vehicles seeing a proposed increase of 4.7 percent. The plan would see the increases apply twice a year for the next ten years.

For those who cross the International Bridge more frequently would see discounts of 10 to 35 percent depending on the number of crossings you make.

The proposed toll hikes will be on the table of discussion of a number of public hearings planned by the Bridge Authority. The first public hearing will take place July 11 at 5pm at the Delta Hotels by Marriot in Sault Canada, the second is planned for July 12 at 5pm at the bridge administration building at 934 Bridge Plaza in the Michigan Sault. A third will be held in Lansing Michigan.

As of April1st of this year, most passenger vehicles pay a toll of $5.40 Canadian with Commercial vehicles paying anywhere between $13.60 to $74.80 depending on the number of axles.
