GEREGHTY, Marie Francis (nee Premo)

With heavy hearts and cherished memories albeit to brief, the siblings of Marie announce her sudden and unexpected death on Saturday, September 16th, 2023.

A failing heart took her from this world and those she loved; her loving heart left a beacon of light for all. As a woman of prayer and faith, we are sure Marie was welcomed into the loving arms of God and reunited with the loves of her life, her husband, John, mother and father, George and Gladys Premo (nee Ambeault) and her brother, Bill.

Marie is survived by her siblings, Shirley (late John) Kindred, Gladys (Les) Graham, Gary (Suzanne) Premo, Ronald (Shelley) Premo. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews; Gary Kindred, Jason Premo, Julie Premo, Lisa Downey, Laurie Graham, Vicky Premo, Carrie Paquette, Brandon Premo and Brianna Premo, her aunt, Isabel Olar, and many cousins as well as her extended family, Lloyd Gereghty, Nilah Nolin, Gwen Gunderson, and Kevin Best.

Marie was born and grew up in the Sault.  She attended St. John’s elementary school and graduated from Bawating C&V High School. Marie enjoyed working in the cash office of K-Mart and later at Morgan Welding and the Department of Highways. She met John, the love of her life. They married and soon after re-located to Sudbury. Marie continued her professional career with Allis-Chalmers later to be known as Svedala until her retirement.

Marie was an avid reader, enjoyed movies and listening to music as was evident from her huge library. Marie & John enjoyed cross country skiing, biking, walking, travelling, entertaining family and friends. After retirement, Marie enjoyed many hours of volunteer work and friendship with members of John’s retirement group, known as the Maverick’s. Through their community outreach, Marie was able to share her skill of sewing and quilting by making hats, burping pads, quilts, and blankets for the babies in the neonatal intensive unit at the St. Joseph Health Centre and pillows and knitted hats for the regional cancer program.

Marie and John had wonderful neighbours and friends. Special thanks to their “Valley,” Elm Street, neighbours who made sure the drive was shovelled, grass cut, rides were available, provided grocery store runs, garbage dump trips plus friendship, compassion and so much more. You were available 24/7, even managing a garage sale.

Thank you, Al, Rick, Steve, Mike, Wes & Gail, the Nelson family. Thank you, to special friends and family who took time to visit, phone, take Marie for lunch, drive to appointments. Your friendship was a valued gift. Thank you to her friends, Cathy Denoble, Karen Thompson, Deb Nelson.

Acknowledgement of two special friendships that Marie held close to her heart. Elliot and Donna. Elliot Nelson, the boy next door, who often took time to ring the doorbell just to be sure, Miss Marie was okay or just to say, hello. You are a special young man. Donna Bowles, a special lady in Marie’s life. Marie loved their phone talks, lunches, and visits. Thank you, Donna, for being part of Marie’s life.
