Northern Credit Union and the City of Sault Ste. Marie invite the public to join them in celebrating their partnership of the Northern Community Centre with a public skate and BBQ fundraiser.
On Saturday, September 16, from 10:45 am and 1:00 pm at the Northern Community Centre on Goulais Ave, families will be able to skate on one of the new NHL-sized ice rinks, meet representatives from the partnering organizations, enjoy complimentary food from M&M Meats, and enter to win a $5,000* prize. Entry to the event is free with a non-perishable food, personal hygiene product, or monetary donation. All collected items and funds will support the Soup Kitchen Community Centre helping to reduce food insecurity in the community.
The Northern Community Centre is a vibrant hub of activity and connection, dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the local community. In partnership with the City of Sault Ste. Marie, the Northern Credit Union Community Centre provides an inclusive space that fosters personal growth, community engagement, and memorable experiences.
“We are pleased to leverage our partnership with the City of Sault Ste. Marie to bring our community together and support our local soup kitchen,” said Liisa Woolley, SVP of Member Experience at Northern Credit Union. “For us, creating positive impacts means building thriving, healthy communities where people want to grow up, live, and remain.”
Northern Credit Union entered a 10-year, $205,000 partnership with the City of Sault Ste. Marie in 2013. The partnership was extended for an additional five years and $100,000 in 2021 to continue supporting athletes and community members. The fully accessible Northern Community Centre now features two NHL-sized ice rinks, a rubberized community walking track, 10 changerooms, public meeting rooms, a concession stand, reception area, and electric powered Zambonis.
