Forcible Confinement, Firearm Charges Laid

On July 17, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 40-year-old Donald Larente with forcible confinement and a number of firearm offences.

Around 2:30 a.m., 911 Communicators received a report of people being held hostage by someone with a gun at a residence in the 300 block of Wellington Street East. The caller identified the person with the gun as the accused. The accused and the victims are known to one another.

Upon arrival, officers called the accused outside. The accused came outside and was placed under arrest without incident. Further investigation revealed the accused had pointed a long barrel shotgun at people in the residence and prevented them from leaving.

The accused is charged with:

  • Point Firearm
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order x2

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
