Five new battery storage sites are in the works in partnership with the Sault Ste. Marie PUC and Starwood Energy Group Global Inc.
PUC said the battery sites would store energy created by renewable resources such as solar and wind power so it can be used when the power is needed most.
In its report to council, the PUC plan to establish the sites throughout the city including, Allen’s Side Road, People’s Road North of Second Line, 500 Second Line East, 140 MacDonald Ave. and 2221 Queen St. East.
The project is in response to an RFP from the province as the government prepares to close one of its nuclear plants.
