Driver Flees after Pushing Passenger and Hitting Pedestrian

On September 4, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 18-year-old Gage Lothrop with dangerous operation and several other offences.

Around 3:00 a.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in a parking lot in the 0-100 block of Pine Street. Upon arrival, officers learned the driver, who witnesses identified as the accused, had pushed another person out of their vehicle. When friends of the person who was pushed from the vehicle attempted to come to their aid, the driver turned around and sped away, striking a victim with the vehicle while exiting the parking lot. The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

Officers located the vehicle involved, conducted a traffic stop, and arrested the accused.

The accused provided multiple breath samples into an approved screening device which registered a blood alcohol concentration above zero.

The accused is charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm
  • Failure to Stop at Accident Resulting in Bodily Harm
  • Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero (under the Highway Traffic Act)
  • Class G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver (under the Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on November 20, 2023.
