Driver and Passenger Charged

Charges Laid

On July 30, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 32-year-old Mark Shuttleworth with operation while impaired, among other charges, and 32-year-old Jonathan Briault-Dewar with possession of a controlled substance.

Around 4:00 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a swerving vehicle on Lake Street. The report stated the vehicle had then come to a stop at a green light and the driver appeared to be unconscious. Officers were dispatched to the area.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the driver, who identified themselves as Mark Shuttleworth, and the passenger, who was identified as Jonathan Briault-Dewar. Officers observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, and both were arrested.

The driver made several attempts to pull away from officers during their arrest and refused to comply with a bodily substance screening demand. Subsequent searches found the driver and passenger to be in possession of approximately one gram of what is believed to be fentanyl each.

The driver is charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired (Drug and/or Alcohol)
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Bodily Substance Screening Demand
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance
  • Resist Peace Officer

The passenger is charged with:

  • Possession of Schedule I Substance
  • Breach of Probation

Both the driver and passenger were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court on October 16, 2023.
