Donations Exceed Goal For Man Killed In Algoma Steel Industrial Accident

A GoFundMe campaign to help the mother of Damien Bryant who was killed in an industrial accident at Algoma Steel last week, has already exceeded the goal set by organizers of raising $50,000.

The money will be given to Damien’s Mother, Catherine Jessica Bryant who is left to raise his one year daughter. ” On June 15 our friend and coworker Damien Bryant passed away suddenly after being involved in an industrial accident in Sault Ste. Marie. He leaves behind a family, including his 1-year-old daughter.”

Damien Bryant was an employee of GFL Environmental Inc., who was working in the Algoma Steel plant at the time of his death. Bryant was cleaning an out-of-service gas line when he lost consciousness Thursday afternoon. He was rushed to Sault Area Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Ontario Ministry of Labour is still conducting an investigation.

The GoFundMe campaign was launched by Daniel Kauntz and Melanie Moggy. They had hoped to raise $50,000 but as of Monday afternoon, $56,000 has been donated. The largest donation coming from the President and founder of GFL Environmental Inc, Patrick Dovigi with a donation of $25,000.
