Council extends condolences to Lindsay, Madonna families

council briefs

Sault Mayor Matthew Shoemaker acknowledged the City’s recent loss of two strong community contributors at Monday night’s council meeting.

Long-time City Clerk Bill Lindsay and well-known local merchant, and former Councillor and Reeve of Prince Township, Lou Madonna, both recently passed away.

Lindsay passed March 10. He was 83. Madonna passed a day earlier, and was 91.

“Bill was a dedicated City of Sault Ste. Marie employee for many years, a dedicated Saultite, and a passionate Saultite. He contributed much, not just to the City but the community at large over many years of both his public service and the service to the community outside the walls of this Council chamber,” said Shoemaker.

“We also lost Lou Madonna. He was known to many and was also a great community member and great advocate for the area. Our condolences to both the Lindsay and Madonna families.”

Good news regarding Kyleigh Provenzano

Mayor Shoemaker followed up his recognition of Lindsay and Madonna with some good news.

“We all collectively breathed a great sigh of relief late last week hearing of the success of Kyleigh Provenzano’s tumour removal. She is a great friend of many of ours, around this council table. She’s a great advocate for brain cancer research,” said Shoemaker.

We wish her all the best, from the entire community, for a successful recovery.

If you are able to, I encourage all community members to donate to Brain Cancer Canada, at braincancercanada.ca/donate. That would help others hopefully achieve a similarly successful outcome to that that Kylie experienced late last week. Get well soon, Kyleigh.”
