Today, the Bank of Canada revealed that it will reduce its main interest rate by 0.25 percentage points, bringing it down to 4.75 percent. This reduction matches the forecasts of most economists monitored by Bloomberg and marks the first decrease since the central bank initiated its policy of tightening in March 2022.
Last month, the Statistics Canada reported that the core inflation rate for April was 2.7 percent. The overnight lending rate by the Bank of Canada had been maintained at five percent since July of the previous year.
