Badly Needed Rain Has Helped Forest Fires In Northeastern Ontario

Cooler , damp weather in the last few days has helped ease the forest fire situation in Northeastern Ontario.

28 fire remain active in the region with no new fires reported. 40 additional forest fires are currently burning in Northwestern Ontario.

The fire hazard has been reduced to low to moderate across the Northeast region as a result of the rain.

Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding areas in Algoma picked up about 28mm of rain since Monday. Scattered isolated showers will continue for today however the return of hot and dry weather builds in for the weekend, which could lead to perfect conditions for additional fires to start.

Meanwhile, several forest fires in the north east are considered under control including Sault 4 and Sault 6 for a total of 18 hectares and Wawa 2 at 105 hectares. 3 fires in the Sudbury region has also under control as of Tuesday.
