On May 30, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 64-year-old Robert Smith of Desbarats, Ontario, with assault.
Around 12:00 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of an assault in the 700 block of Great Northern Road. Although the accused had left prior to officers’ arrival, an investigation revealed the accused had grabbed the vest of a security officer and pushed them backward after being issued a parking ticket, which they stuffed into the victim’s vest before driving away. No physical injuries were sustained.
Around 11:00 a.m. the following morning, the accused attended the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, and they were arrested.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on July 29, 2024.
