Firefighters battle blaze in Whitefish Township

Firefighters continue to battle a 35-acre fire in Chippewa County.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) firefighters along with local personnel are working to douse the fire which was first reported around 6:15 pm, Tuesday.

The Whitefish Township fire poses no threats to homes or other structures but is located in a sandy pine forest area that is difficult to access. Bulldozers, large water units and all-terrain vehicles are being used to fight the fire.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
