On June 28, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 59-year-old John Nemeth with assaulting a peace officer.
Around 6:30 p.m., 911 Communicators received a complaint of an assault against a corrections officer at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre. Officers were dispatched to the location. Investigation revealed the accused spit in the victim’s face. The victim was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The accused was arrested.
The accused remains in custody at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre pending a bail hearing.
