PARRELLA-ILARIA, Laurel Amanda

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Laurel on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 at the age of 71, peacefully and with dignity at her home away from home in London, Ontario, with her family at her side.

Loving wife of Dominic for 46 years. Cherished mom of Mercedes (Alexandru). Beloved sister of Anthony (Eva), Julian (Kerstin), and Mark (Kathy), and sister-in-law to Maria (Mark). Predeceased by her mother and father Vilma and Lino Fiacconi. Laurel will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her nephews and nieces-in-law Ryan (Hailie), Christopher (Jessie) and Justin, as well as many cousins and close friends.

Laurel was a unique, loving and generous person who had an eclectic thirst for deep, philosophical books and a fervent passion for haute couture, always impeccably dressed ‘en vogue’ no matter where she went. She was the epitome of the stubbornly Finnish trait, ‘sisu’, with her unwavering determination to overcome all obstacles and meet adversity head-on. Her deep faith in God and her sisu gave her the extraordinary strength and courage to survive a double-organ transplant in 2018 and to battle a devastating case of cancer over the past year, never giving up.

Special thanks to Dr. Rassouli and nurses and staff of the Algoma District Cancer Program in Sault Ste. Marie, as well as Dr. Fortin of the thoracic unit, Dr. Breadner of the cancer unit, and Dr. Hertzman of palliative care, Victoria Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, and the nurses and staff of Saint Elizabeth Home Care for their compassionate and loving care while in London.

A private family service to be held at Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E, 705-759-2522). Rev. Jeff Shannon officiating. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions (payable by cheque or online) to the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund https://www.sahfoundation.com/donate would be greatly appreciated. Please visit www.arthufuneralhome.com obituaries section to leave a message of condolence as a keepsake for the family.
