Gregory Arthur Krause

On June 10, 2024, we mourn the passing of a man that will be missed by many.  He was surrounded by his family and friends in the final days and he now rests in the hands of the Lord.  Most importantly, he was able to spend his last moments on his beloved farm.

Greg was born July 24, 1946 in Manistique, son of the late Arthur and Wanda (Thompson) Krause.  He graduated from Engadine High School before receiving his teaching degree from Northern Michigan University in 1968.  He met and married his wife, the former Diane Brunelle, that same year.  In 1974, the family moved back to Engadine to take over the family farm and teach at Engadine High School.  In these years, he and his wife were blessed with three children: Amy, Craig and Brian.

Greg has a passion for farming, switching the farm from dairy to beef, and started organic farming/gardening in 1985 and starting the first farmers market at the farm in 1999.

He loved teaching Environmental Science, Biology, English and Drivers Training.  He coached many girls and boys basketball teams up to the varsity level.

After he retired from teaching in 1996, he enjoyed traveling Michigan to sell his organic produce and meat to individuals and businesses, meeting many news people along the way.

He was an active member of the Lakefield Baptist Church, was formerly an elder, singing in the choir and served the Keryx and Prison Ministry.

Greg is survived by Diane, his wife of 56 years; daughter Amy (Pete) Zerfas of Fremont; sons Craig (Dana) Krause of Haslett and Brian Krause of Kinross; grandchildren Nicole (Dan) Malcolm, Matthew and Joshua Zerfas, Adam, Ethan and Abby Krause, Charlie Burton, Madison and Kaden Krause; siblings Kurt Krause of Engadine and Kay Wheat of Engadine.

The Krause family will be holding a celebration of life on Saturday August 3, 2024 with a time and venue to be announced.

Memorials may be directed to North Woods Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 307, Manistique, Michigan 49854 in his loving memory.
