The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society is humbled to receive the “Superior Award” from the Historical Society of Michigan (HSM), one of the oldest historical societies in the country.
The HSM describes this award as the following…The Superior Award, established by HSM in 2006, recognizes historical societies, museums, and other historical organizations that have preserved and advanced U.P. history.
If you’ve visited the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point…or are aware of our marine operations and recent shipwreck discoveries… you may see why we earned this award. It’s all about teamwork. “We are honored to receive the Historical Society of Michigan’s Superior Award”, said GLSHS Executive Director, Bruce Lynn. “This is a reflection of the teamwork by our great staff at Whitefish Point, the Weather Bureau building in the Soo, as well as the crew onboard our research vessel, David Boyd. Special thanks to Dan Fountain as well for nominating us for this prestigious award”!
The whole staff and Board of Directors of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society also want to thank our membership and visitors who helped to make this award a reality by visiting us at our historic sites and supporting our efforts. Whitefish Point and the 1899 Weather Bureau Building are very special places, and we plan to keep it them that way for a long time.
