GIBBS, Anneli Anna-Liisa (Koivukangas)
With sadness, we announce that Anne Gibbs passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Ontario Finnish Resthome- Mauna Kaihla Koti on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the age of 85.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Gerald Gibbs. Wonderful mother of Randy Gibbs (Dahna), Sandra Devoe (Steve), and the late Jeffrey Gibbs (Laura). Proud grandmother of Brittany and Stephen Devoe, Laurel Gibbs and Leslie Lucas (Brandon), and Cameron and late Melanie Gibbs. Great-grandmother of Kaelex. Devoted daughter of the late Ilmari and Vieno Koivukangas. Sister of the late Juhani Koivukangas (Asta), Seija Ritchie (late George), Ulla-Maija Clark, and Pirjo Ruel. Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Anne was an intelligent and hardworking woman. Although she had a tough life, she was the most resilient person and maintained a strong moral compass. People were drawn to her strength, compassion, and empathetic nature. She was happiest when she was helping others, and making people smile gave her a sense of purpose. Anne also had a deep love for animals. Everyone will remember her for making the best homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs.
A celebration of Anne’s life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ontario Finnish Resthome Association or the Sault Ste Marie Humane Society. (Payable by cheque or online).
We would like to thank all the staff of Mauna Kaihla Koti, who have taken such great care of her in the months that she lived there. A special thank you to Helena McGrath for her ongoing compassion and her respectful and consoling words during our time of need.
Anne’s legacy of compassion and kindness will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
