(BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION, ON)- On July 1, 2023, shortly after 12:30 p.m., members from the Batchewana First Nation Police Service responded to a break and enter complaint at a residence on Tecumseh Street in the community of Batchewana First Nation.

Investigation determine two individuals were trespassing in a vacant house and a verbal altercation took place with the owner. Once police were called, one of the individuals fled and the other remained at the scene.

As a result, John TURNER, 48 years-of-age from St Joseph Township was arrested and charged with: Unlawfully in Dwelling House

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on August 14, 2023.

(BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION, ON)- On July 4, 2023, shortly after 12:30 p.m., members from the Batchewana First Nation Police Service responded to a break and enter at a local Day Care on Frontenac Street in the community of Batchewana First Nation that occurred sometime between June 30 and the morning of July 4, 2023.

Police reviewed video footage and an individual could be seen attending the property and removing window screens in an attempted to force windows open. The suspect then stole a small trampoline, a youth’s bicycle, and tricycle.

On July 11, 2023, shortly after 3:00 p.m., police made an arrest on Gran Street and as a result, Christopher HILL, 29 years-of-age from Batchewana First Nation was charged with:

  • Break, Enter a Place-Commit Indictable Offence
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Mischief Under $5000

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on August 28, 2023.

(BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION, ON)- On July 11, 2023, members from the Batchewana First Nation Police Service were on patrol duties in the community of Batchewana First Nation.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m., police observed an open door at a residence on Gran Street. Police attended the property and were met by two unknown individuals. While speaking to police, the officer observed one of the individuals known to police who was attempting to sneak out the back of the residence. 

Police made an arrest and while searching the suspect police located a small amount of suspect methamphetamine.

As a result, Christopher HILL, 29 years-of-age from Batchewana First Nation was charged with: Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Methamphetamine

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on August 28, 2023.

(BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION, ON)- On July 20, 2023, while an off-duty member from the Batchewana First Nation Police Service was travelling to work to begin his shift the officer made note of a suspicious vehicle with a boat trailer in tow at a local campground in the community of Garden River First Nation.

Once at the office, the officer queried the plates on the pick-up truck and trailer and contacted the registered owner who confirmed they had a boat and trailer parked at the campground and no one was to have access to a boat and trailer.

Shortly after 8:15 p.m., while patrolling the community of Batchewana First Nation, police observed this same pick-up truck with two individuals unhooking the trailer on a property on Gran Street. 

One individual fled the scene, the second suspect was arrested.

As a result, Craig DOLAN, 38 years-of-age from Sault Ste Marie was charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on August 28, 2023.
