YMCA Campaign Gets Big Boost

The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA is thrilled to announce that Algoma Steel has committed a generous lead gift of $50,000 per year, totalling $250,000, to support the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA’s $1.5 million capital campaign, “A Bridge to Our Future”.

This significant contribution marks the beginning of a transformative journey for the YMCA. This
multi-year campaign will be crucial for the YMCA to secure its sustainability and ensure it remains a
viable community resource for years to come.

The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA has reached a critical juncture in the history of their organization. Faced
with losing the YMCA, a groundswell of encouragement from the members of the community, along
with an investment by an unnamed charity organization, the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA has been afforded
the opportunity to secure its future. The YMCA is committed to raising $1.5 million so it can continue
to help the community of Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area shine through essential programs and
services.

“We are incredibly grateful to Algoma Steel for their generous pledge of $250,000 over five years.
This donation will have a substantial impact on our ability to provide essential services, from child
care and summer camps to health and fitness programs, to upgrades in capital infrastructure,” said
Elise Schofield, Sault Ste. Marie YMCA Board Chair. “The YMCA is more than just a gym; it’s a
charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the well-being of our community. Every membership
and every donation helps us support local families, ensuring that everyone has access to the
opportunities and resources they need to ignite their potential.”

“Algoma Steel is proud to partner with our local YMCA chapter in Sault Ste. Marie to support its
mission of fostering healthy living and community well-being. This sponsorship aligns with our
commitment to building better lives and enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families in
our community,” says Algoma Steel’s CEO Michael Garcia. “Together, we aim to create a stronger,
more connected community through accessible programs and services that promote physical, mental,
and social health.”

In addition to their “A Bridge to Our Future” support, Algoma Steel has invested in the health and
wellness of their employees by offering a $10 discount off payroll deduction to any of their staff who
purchase a membership at the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA.

The YMCA wants to thank all the members of the community who have made pledges so far. They
urge businesses and community members alike to join in this critical effort. Together, we can secure
the future of the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA and continue to make a positive difference in our
community.
