Nabbed For Using a Stolen Debit Card

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On January 1, 2024, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a person after using a stolen debit card at numerous retail stores in Elliot Lake. 

On December 30, 2023, a resident on Axmith Avenue returned home to find their house had been broken into and multiple items stolen. One of those items was a debit card in the homeowner’s name. Investigation revealed that the debit card was fraudulently used at numerous retail locations in Elliot Lake. Video camera footage was obtained from these locations and the person was identified and later arrested.   

Tiffany BERNSTEIN, 35-years-old, of Elliot Lake was arrested and charged with:

  • Fraud under $5000 (three counts)
  • Use of credit card (three counts)
  • Possession of a credit card (three counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 8, 2024.
