MELNEK, Harry James

December 20, 1933 – November 16, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harry Melnek, who departed this world just shy of his 90th birthday. Harry, known for his candid demeanor and quick wit, lived a full and meaningful life.

Harry was a devoted husband to Norah for 67 years, and loving father to Lance (Carla) and Kelly (Francine). He instilled in his children the values of hard work and success, shaping their paths with his wisdom and determination. His legacy extends to his cherished grandchildren, Ashley (Ed) and Morgan, along with his two great grandsons Jacob & Benjamin, who all brought immense joy to his life. He also leaves his sister Doris Rossi (John – predeceased), and nephew Brian (Tanya). Harry also leaves behind his good friend Steve Taylor, who paid him regular visits every Thursday afternoon, paired with a coffee.

Harry worked many years at Algoma Ore in Wawa, and was highly regarded during his career with WSIB, where he demonstrated dedication and resilience, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with upon retirement. He also thoroughly enjoyed his Friday nights at the Canadian with the gang sharing many laughs and stories. Up until his very last days, Harry kept his mind sharp by keeping up with stock market trends and sharing his knowledge with his family about where people should invest. Of his passions, most importantly was the joy and solace he found at his cottage on St. Josephs Island that he built many years ago alongside his two sons, where he cherished many moments surrounded by his family in peace and tranquility.

As per Harry’s wishes, a private family celebration will take place at a later date. Let us remember him for his sense of humour, his unwavering spirit, and the love he shared with his family. May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of strength and a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (Made payable by cheque or online) to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. -705-759-2522).
